Est. 1922 Glen Ellyn
Our Story
A century on Main Street.
In 1922, Tommy Williams bought a barber shop on Main Street and gave it a new name: the Busy Bee. More than a hundred years and five owners later, the chairs are still full, and the Busy Bee is likely the oldest continuously named business in downtown Glen Ellyn.
The faces don’t change much, either. Joe, Jim and Norm have been cutting side by side since the 1970s. The chairs fill up with about one-third kids, one-third working folks and one-third retirees, and the conversation covers all of it. No rotating staff, no seven-day chain hours. Just barbers who know your name.
Up front sits a cash register more than a century old. It still rings, just not past $3.99.
“It’s a big part of the town, and the town is a big part of us.”

The Wall
Headquarters for Glen Ellyn sports.
Every season the park district baseball team photos go up on our walls, more than a hundred of them, swapped out each year. Forty-plus years of past teams are boxed up in the basement. Signed balls from championship teams sit at the stations, and the talk is mostly box scores. Come find your kid’s team. Or your own.
